Cultural Personality of the Year 2018

Arab World Institute

France

‘L’Institut du Monde Arabe’ (IMA), or the ‘Arab World Institute’ is the winner of Sheikh Zayed Book Award 12th Edition’s Cultural Personality of the Year Title. The honorary award recognises prominent figures and entities for their unique contributions to the advancement of the Arab culture, and for works that portray tolerance and promote peaceful coexistence.

The unanimous decision of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award’s Scientific Committee and Board of Trustees came in recognition of the Institute’s role - since its establishment in promoting cooperation and cultural exchange between France and the Arab world, especially in terms of contributing to the advancement of the Arabic language and Arabic culture in France and Europe, and the mutual cooperation with Arab nations in science and technology, in addition to supporting Arab authors and scholars, and hosting numerous cultural events and seminars.

About the Cultural Personality of the Year

The Arab World Institute (Institut du Monde Arabe - IMA) was founded in 1987 by France and the states of the Arab League with the aim of disseminating and promoting all the facets of Arab culture.  The Institute has for the last 30 years contributed to the consolidation of the cultural, political, economic, and social links between France and the Arab world.

IMA's mission is to promote a better understanding of the Arab world and fostering a Franco-Arab dialogue. Apart from providing an ambitious programme of artistic events, the Arab World Institute has strengthened its role as a ‘think tank’ on the contemporary Arab world and as a place where all the players — particularly the economic players — in France and the Arab world can meet and exchange ideas.
