Sheikh Zayed Book Award Participate in Frankfurt Book Fair 2019

Abu Dhabi,

The Sheikh Zayed Book Award (SZBA) is participating in this year’s edition of Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse) as part of its mandate to promote the Arab culture worldwide, enrich the literary communication with the international community and also showcase the tremendous efforts of United Arab Emirates to boost the book industry.

The Sheikh Zayed Book Award will be hosting a series of events held throughout October during the Frankfurt Book Fair, including panel discussions, networking receptions and book launches which will be attended by internationally renowned publishers and authors as well as promising young talent from across the world and the Emirates. 

Amongst the highly anticipated events will be a panel discussion titled ‘Trends in Children’s Literature- Arab and German Voices’ which will host the winner of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award for Children’s Literature in 2019, Hussain Al Mutawaa, esteemed German author and Head of the International Library for Youth in Munich, Dr. Christiane Raabe, Stephan Trudewind, Publisher of Edition Orient and Stefan Weidner, Arabist, author and critic who will be moderating the panel. The event promises to be an enlightening conversation around translation, accessibility and the current trends in children’s writing. 

Sheikh Zayed Book Award will be also organizing a meeting which gathers notable international publishers from China, Germany, France and Russia to discuss ways of collaboration and introduce the Award’s Translation Funding, launched in 2018 to encourage the translation, publishing and distribution of SZBA winning-titles internationally. 

The Award will also be hosting a book launch event on 18th October to celebrate the translation of two of its titles in literature and children’s literature categories into Ukrainian, English, French and Italian in presence of the winning authors and representatives’ from the publishing houses that published the books.
