UAE President Issues Anti Hate, Discrimination Decree by Law

United Arab Emirates President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin-Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a Decree by law against any form of discrimination on the basis of religion, caste, creed, doctrine, race, colour or ethnic origin. The law is intended to provide a sound foundation for the environment of tolerance, broad¬ mindedness and acceptance in the UAE. Penalties for violation of the various provisions of the law include jail-terms and fines amounting from AED 50 thousand to AED 2 million. Secretary General of Sheikh Zayed Book Award Dr Ali Bin-Tameem commented on the law, saying that there’s a dire need to raise the awareness among people on tolerance and the dangers of discrimination. Director of Watani Foundation said that the law will not allow any attack against anyone’s beliefs, opinion or freedom.
