Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has been named Cultural Personality of the Year by trustees of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award. The award honours contributions to the advancement of Arab culture and encourages work towards tolerance and the promotion of peace. The trustees said the award highlighted Sheikh Mohammed’s achievements in cultural development. Following the declaration of Sheikh Mohammed as winner of the award, Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, President of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and the award’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Ali Bin Tamim, award’s secretary-general, and the members of the board extended their warmest congratulations and sincerest regards to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on winning this year’s award, which honours prominent figures, for his distinguished contributions to Arab culture. The announcement was made on Wednesday during a press conference at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Jumaa Al Qubaisi, Member of the Board of Trustees, Executive Director of the National Library. The winners will be announced next month ahead of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which will be held in Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec).
