Sheikh Zayed Book Award announces finalists in “Publishing and Technology” for its ninth session

For the first time in its history, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award has shortlisted contenders for the “Publishing and Technology” prize following the conclusion of a series of meetings held by the Scientific Committee in Abu Dhabi to assess reports submitted by the judges’ panel for this category. Two Lebanese publishing houses; Arab Scientific Publishers Inc. and Al Saqi Publishing House, and the Toubkal Publishing House from Morocco were named. Commenting on the announcement, Saeed Hamdan, Sheikh Zayed Book Award’s Manager, said, “The decision to announce finalists in the Publishing and Technology category in this year’s session stems from our strong belief in the key role those entities play in fostering the book industry and energising translation efforts, which eventually helps promote Arabic culture and encourage younger generations to embrace reading.” The Scientific Committee, based on judges reports, decided not to award two categories; “Literary and Art Criticism” and “Contribution to the Development of Nations” as the nominations in these categories did not meet the Award’s conditions. The full list of winners is scheduled for announcement this month to be followed by Award’s Grand Ceremony, celebrating the winning achievements on 11th May, coinciding with Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
