Dr. Waciny Laredj

Algeria

Born in the village of Sedi Bojnan in 1954, Laredj holds a PhD in Literature and is a university professor and a novelist. He is a member of the Union of Algerian Writers and has also worked as presenter of the TV programme ‘Ahl Alketab’ (The People of the Book). Laredj has published a range of books and studies and his work has been translated into German, French, English, Italian and Spanish.

About The Book

Wacini Laredj won the Sheikh Zayed Book Award for Literature for his novel The Prince and the Passage of the Iron Doors, which addresses Ameer Abdul Qader’s struggle against the French occupation troops of Algeria during the 19th century. An exceptional work of narrative imagination, the novel emphasises the values of tolerance and fraternity.
