In celebration of International Translation Day, the International Publishers Association hosted Sheikh Zayed Book Award 2021 Translation winner Michael Cooperson alongside Paola Seghi of Book Fairs and International Relations (AIE) Italy, Georgian author Nestan Nene Kvinikadze and Mariana Warth of Pallas Editora Publishing House, Brazil in the webinar titled ‘The Global Landscape for Translation Rights.'
Under the moderation of Publishing Perspectives editor-in-chief Porter Anderson, the panelists discussed how grants help promote translation, the benefits of helping publishers’ books travel abroad, the best practice for securing rights sales for translation, and more.

Speakers

Porter Anderson
Porter Anderson has been named International Trade Press Journalist of the Year in London's Book Fair 2019 International Excellence Awards. He is Editor-in-Chief of Publishing Perspectives. He co-founded The Hot Sheet, a newsletter for trade and indie authors, which now is owned and operated by Jane Friedman. He formerly was Associate Editor for The FutureBook at London's The Bookseller. Anderson also has worked as a senior producer, editor, and anchor with CNN.com, CNN International, and CNN USA, and as an arts critic (National Critics Institute) with The Village Voice and Dallas Times Herald.

Michael Cooperson
An American author and translator, Cooperson studied at Harvard University and the American University of Cairo, and is currently a professor of Arabic language and literature at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has published two monographs on early Abbasid cultural history: ‘Classical Arabic Biography’ and ‘Al-Ma'mun’. In addition to Impostures, he has translated Abdelfattah Kilito's ‘L'Auteur et ses doubles (The Author and his Doubles)’ and Ibn al-Jawzi's ‘Manaqib al-Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (Virtues of the Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal)’. His other interests include Maltese language and culture.
