Author, artist and 2020 Sheikh Zayed Book Award Children's Literature winner Ibtisam Barakat, joined publisher and Executive Director of Sujet Verlag Madjid Mohit, and author and translator Suleman Taufiq for ’It’s only a children’s book – The complexity of the supposedly simple,’ a webinar exploring the nuances of children’s literature at the 2021 Frankfurt Book Fair.
Held in collaboration with Litprom Cultural Foundation and moderated by translator Leila Chammaa, the panelists explored the challenges of writing, publishing, and translating children's literature, linguistic structure, the relationship between visual and text, and more.

Ibtisam Barakat
Ibtisam Barakat is an award-winning, Palestinian-American author, poet, translator, artist and educator, based in the United States. She publishes in both English and Arabic— her memoir, Tasting the Sky: A Palestinian Childhood (2007), received considerable critical acclaim and has been translated into several languages. Her poems, essays and short stories have appeared in magazines including World Literature Today, The Nation, Wasafiri and the Washington Post. The Lilac Girl is her sixth book for younger readers.
