Sea of Culture in collaboration with Sheikh Zayed Book Award organized an online literary discussion entitled “Children's Literature, the Internet and the Virtual World” with the Palestinian writer and artist Ibtisam Barakat, SZBA 2020 recipient of the Children's Literature Award via Zoom platform.
During the session, Ibtisam discussed her winning book Al-Fatah Al-Laylakeyyah (The Lilac Girl), published by Tamer Institute for Community Education (Palestine) in 2019, and also shed light on the influence of the digital age on children’s literature writing and e-learning.
The session was moderated by Ann Al Safi, a Sudanese critic, poet and novelist.

Ibtisam Barakat
Ibtisam Barakat is an award-winning, Palestinian-American author, poet, translator, artist and educator, based in the United States. She publishes in both English and Arabic— her memoir, Tasting the Sky: A Palestinian Childhood (2007), received considerable critical acclaim and has been translated into several languages. Her poems, essays and short stories have appeared in magazines including World Literature Today, The Nation, Wasafiri and the Washington Post. The Lilac Girl is her sixth book for younger readers.
