Abu Dhabi, September 23, 2012 – The Sheikh Zayed Book Award has participated in this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany which marks the 64th cycle of the world's largest trade fair in the publishing industry. The International book Fair, organized by a subsidiary company of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, will commence its activities on 10th through 14th of October, joining more than 7,000 exhibitors from over 100 countries and more than 286,000 visitors from all over the world. The Award’s participation was part of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture mission to the blue-chip event. “This year’s participation in Frankfurt Book Fair gains paramount significance as it follows our fruitful contribution in the Arab-German Cultural Communion in the German Capital Berlin, last September, in addition to the introduction of our new category “Arabic Culture in other Languages”, Dr. Ali Bin Tamim, the Award’s Secretary General, commented. “The new category proved to be a success as it attracted substantial response from academics and cultural researchers around the world, especially from Germany”, he added. The “Arabic Culture in other Languages” is a new category devised prior to the launch of the Award’s 7th session currently in progress, to honor all written works in languages other than Arabic, about the Arabic civilization and culture, in the fields of humanities, fine arts, and literature throughout its historical eras. Parallel to the Book Fair proceedings, bin Tamim met an assembly of authors and academics from a number of German and European universities, and explained the Award's new extended submission and nomination deadlines.
